Architectural Masonry

Architectural masonry is at the heart of what we do. We regularly produce our own technical drawings and full scale templates, which are transferred directly to stone before carving begins. Whether we are accurately matching an original piece for restoration or creating a new feature from scratch, every element is shaped and finished with precision.

We also work with architect supplied drawings, producing arches, columns, mouldings, and custom stone components built to exact measurements, often to the millimetre. The result is stonework thats, both structurally and aesthetically perfect.

Conservation focuses on preserving the existing stonework rather than rebuilding or altering it. Using traditional techniques such as mortar repairs, stone indents, lime-based treatments, and careful material matching, we stabilise and protect original structures while maintaining their historic character.

One of our key methods is limewashing, a breathable coating created from lime and stone dust that helps shield the surface from weathering while allowing the stone to release moisture naturally. Our approach ensures the fabric of the building remains authentic, stable, and sustainably preserved for future generations.

Interior masonry ranges from elegant, decorative features to structural stonework within a building. We craft and install bespoke fireplaces, stone flooring, internal arches, and columns, including the kind seen in historic churches and cathedrals, with precision and sensitivity to the surrounding architecture.

We are also experienced in the structural side of internal work, including cantilevered stone staircases, partition walls, and interior layout alterations. Where necessary, we work with steel supports and structural solutions to safely redistribute weight and allow spaces to be reconfigured without compromising the integrity of the building. Our interior masonry brings beauty, durability, and thoughtful engineering together within the space.

While we are fully experienced in structural masonry, much of our work focuses on decorative stone features, the elements that make a lasting first impression. From imposing stone gate piers topped with ball finials to finely detailed window and door surrounds, every piece is carefully crafted to enhance the character of the property.

Attention to detail extends across all aspects of our work, from rubble stone and brickwork to bespoke carvings and finishes.

Stone cladding involves applying a decorative layer of masonry to a structure without adding any structural support. Common types include ashlar, brick, and rubble stone, each carefully chosen to complement the building’s style and character.

While primarily aesthetic, cladding can also provide practical benefits, offering additional protection from the elements. Our cladding work combines visual appeal with lasting performance, finished to the highest standards.
